review from www.dwarf.com.au
Rising from the underbelly of the Sydney live scene, where they formed in late 2003, The Follow have attracted some big name supporters - from touring with Sonic Youth and Nine Inch Nails, to recording with one of the most respected producers in the world, Nick Launay.
Nick Launay has worked with Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Midnight Oil, Nick Cave and Silverchair, but chose to work with The Follow on their EP 'Hope You're Happy' after seeing the band live in LA.
"I have always been a fan of the wild, colourful and rebellious and feel this has been something missing in rock 'n' roll for a while", explains Nick, "I want not only the great songs, but an experience, a real show, a front person who takes you into their magical world. When The Follow came to my attention I just knew I had to make a record with them, and that they were all these things and more."
But The Follow are not just a rock band - they are an experience. Fronted by charismatic front man Azaria, The Follow make music from the darker side of fun. Launay describes Azaria as "invoking the glam of early Bowie, the wildness of Iggy Pop... one of the most exciting front men I've seen in years."
Recorded at Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney in 2006, 'Hope You're Happy' will be the very first release from Launay's Stick It To The Man label. The EP will be released on Stick It To The Man, via Warner Music on June 2, 2007.
